About Riesel

Riesel is a McLennan County city that began with a railroad section house and a cotton gin. The Houston and Texas Central Railway’s Roddy section house was on the site around 1880; W. H. Riesel opened the gin in 1890, and the post office took his name the following year. The Riesel Rustler, first published in 1896, is still a weekly local paper, while Riesel Independent School District and Mullens Park give the town its everyday civic frame. State Highway 6 and Farm Road 1860 meet here, about 14 miles southeast of Waco. The local shorthand is rail line, gin, paper, school, and highway junction.
