Ringgold, LA

Ringgold sits in western Bienville Parish among pine woods, open pasture, and the rural roads of north Louisiana. The town is named for Major Samuel Ringgold, a U.S. Army officer, but the landscape’s human history reaches much further back. A 1690 expedition from the Spanish colonial government recorded contact with Caddo country and the waters later associated with Lake Bistineau. Those records capture one outside view of a region already shaped by Caddo communities, travel, and trade. The town itself became part of the parish’s later network of roads, schools, churches, and local commerce.

Today, Ringgold is the parish’s second-largest incorporated municipality and a service point for nearby rural communities. Bienville Parish provides larger governmental and school connections, while Ringgold’s own businesses, churches, town offices, and emergency work handle the regular needs of residents. Lake Bistineau and Driskill Mountain lie within the wider regional landscape, giving the town links to fishing, hunting, and the highest ground in Louisiana. Ringgold has faced hard economic years, but its present story includes local efforts to keep services running, attract businesses, and make the town useful to the people who live around it. The forest-and-prairie setting remains part of its daily scale.
