Ripley, OH

Set against steep hills about 50 miles southeast of Cincinnati, Ripley is a quiet village right on the banks of the Ohio River. Front Street runs directly along the water, giving the downtown area classic riverfront charm, historic brick architecture, and great views of passing barges.

Ripley is famous for its major role in the Underground Railroad. High on the hill above town, the 1825 John Rankin House served as a beacon for freedom seekers crossing from Kentucky, while abolitionist and inventor John Parker operated down along the riverbank. Today, the village offers a relaxed, small-town atmosphere complete with boat ramps, riverside dining, historic museums, and local shops along the Ohio River Scenic Byway. With its preserved 19th-century homes, deep history, and scenic river setting, Ripley has a character all its own.
