River Pines, CA

River Pines is an Amador County census-designated place on the South Fork Cosumnes River, about three miles north-northeast of Fiddletown at roughly 1,985 feet in elevation. The community began as a 1920s cabin development: Roy and Helen Brooke created River Pines Resort, subdividing lots along the river and damming the water for swimming and other summer activities. The resort eventually gave way to a smaller rural community with a post office, store, and scattered homes along the Plymouth-Aukum road.

The river remains a practical part of local life. River Pines Public Utility District holds water rights for municipal use, and county planning describes the South Fork Cosumnes as the community's main water supply, with dry-season flows sometimes falling very low. Amador County's foothill roads connect River Pines with Fiddletown, Plymouth, Pine Grove, and the wider Gold Country, while the surrounding pines and river corridor keep the settlement distinct from the county's larger towns.
