Riverdale, ND

Perched on the bluffs overlooking Lake Sakakawea, Riverdale is a quiet community of roughly 200 residents in central North Dakota. Located about an hour from both Bismarck and Minot, the town was built from scratch in the late 1940s to house the workforce building the massive Garrison Dam. You can still spot that heritage in its organized layout and streets named after states throughout the Missouri River basin.

Today, the former construction hub is a peaceful lakeside town popular with anglers, boaters, and outdoor enthusiasts. Life here centers around the water, with easy access to boat ramps, Lake Sakakawea State Park, and prime fishing below the dam. Local kids attend school in nearby Underwood, and the community maintains its own essential services, giving Riverdale a relaxed, small-town atmosphere surrounded by wide-open prairie and water views.
