About Riverhead
Riverhead is the main hamlet and civic center of the Town of Riverhead on eastern Long Island. It sits at the mouth of the Peconic River, where the North Fork and South Fork begin to split. The hamlet's history includes the 1727 Suffolk County Court House, built to serve both forks. Today Riverhead mixes county services, shopping, riverfront redevelopment, farms, wineries, and access to the East End. It feels like a practical gateway to Long Island's more rural eastern half.
