About Riverside

Riverside is a Steuben County village in the Town of Corning, sitting on NY 415 against the western side of the City of Corning. It stands beside the Chemung River near the point where the Cohocton and Tioga rivers meet, with Cutler Creek entering the Chemung by the village. That location makes the name literal, but water has also shaped the community's memory. In the late 19th century the hamlet was nicknamed Huckmuck because heavy rain brought flooding, and the village was badly hit by the June 1972 Hurricane Agnes flood.

Riverside's map is read through NY 415, the adjacent Southern Tier Expressway, the Chemung valley, and the short streets around the village center. The Town of Corning lists Riverside alongside South Corning as one of its two villages, while New York State places it among Steuben County's municipalities. Riverside has its own village name and local government, nested inside the Town of Corning and pressed against the larger Corning urban area. The river, the state route, and the flood history show why this small village feels tied to the region around it.
