About Rockport
Rockport is Spencer County’s seat on the Ohio River, and the river is part of the city’s name: early settlers pointed to the rock outcroppings along the bank. Lots were first sold here in 1818. In City Park, Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum reconstructs the local setting of Abraham Lincoln’s Indiana years with 14 cabin replicas and artifacts including a hutch made by his father. The city also sits across the river from Owensboro, Kentucky, giving the place a strong cross-river orientation. The local shorthand is county courthouse, river landing, and Lincoln history, all in southern Indiana’s southernmost city.
