About Rogersville

Rogersville is a Lauderdale County town that grew along trade routes around the Muscle Shoals, where roads from Chattanooga to Memphis used the area to bypass the river's shoals. The settlement was first known as Rodgersville after a South Carolina family, then became Rogersville and incorporated in 1858. A one-room school, shops, post office, tavern, and stagecoach stop were in place by the 1820s. U.S. 72 and Snake Road still trace the older movement through the area. Rogersville is a north Alabama town built around getting across and around the river.
