Rohnert Park, CA

Rohnert Park was designed with a unique master plan that still gives the city its friendly, suburban character. Neighborhoods are laid out alphabetically, known locally by letters like the A Section or the M Section. Each of these residential pockets was originally built around its own neighborhood park and elementary school, keeping quiet streets centered on family life while major grocery stores and shopping centers stay close to Highway 101. It is a setup that makes finding your way around easy and keeps parks within walking distance of almost every front door.

Getting around the North Bay from here is simple. Highway 101 runs straight through town, and the SMART train station connects Rohnert Park to neighboring communities throughout Sonoma and Marin counties. The city is also moving forward with plans to turn the large former State Farm property beside the train station into a walkable downtown district. Once built, it will bring local shops, restaurants, new housing, and a central gathering plaza together into a lively community core.

On the east side of town, Sonoma State University gives Rohnert Park a welcoming campus feel and easy access to arts and culture. The highlight for many locals is the Green Music Center, a world-class concert venue right on campus. During warm months, the back wall of the concert hall opens up to an expansive lawn where you can picnic while listening to touring musicians, classical concerts, and local symphonies under the open sky.

For entertainment closer to home, the Spreckels Performing Arts Center hosts plays, musical theater, and dance performances throughout the year. The nearby community center and regional library offer plenty of classes, clubs, and activities for all ages. In the summer, community traditions like the weekly Friday night Party on the Plaza bring neighbors together for live music, food trucks, and an outdoor farmers market.
