Roscoe, TX

Roscoe began as Vista beside the Texas and Pacific Railway, then took its present name when a post office opened in 1890. The city incorporated in 1907, and rail traffic soon made it a shipping point for the surrounding Nolan County farm country. The Roscoe, Snyder and Pacific Railway later ran fifty miles toward Fluvanna, linking the town with other lines and giving Roscoe a short-line story that lasted into the freight era. Interstate 20, U.S. 84, and the Union Pacific keep transportation visible in the city today.

Roscoe Collegiate ISD gives the city an unusually ambitious school story for a town its size. Through partnerships with Western Texas College and Texas State Technical College, students can follow early-college and career pathways while staying connected to local schools. Wind development has also reshaped the local economy and helped fund updated school facilities. The Plowboy Mudbog brings off-road competition to the George Parks Baseball Complex twice a year, adding a loud, muddy date to the civic calendar. Roscoe sits where farming, rail, wind, school innovation, and highway travel meet on the West Texas plain.
