Roseboro, NC

Roseboro grew out of the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railroad, which reached the area in 1889–1890 and turned a tiny crossroads into a Sampson County town. It incorporated in 1891, and the early commercial center included a store, a bank, an automobile agency, and the railroad trade that connected Roseboro to Fayetteville and Wilmington. The 2020 census counted 1,163 residents. The tracks remain part of the town’s layout, even as the weekly movement now follows roads, school buses, utilities, and downtown events.

Roseboro’s current civic map includes town hall, water and sewer, police, fire, library, senior center, post office, and the National Guard armory. Roseboro Elementary and Roseboro-Salemburg Middle serve local students, with Lakewood High nearby in the Sampson County Schools system. Roseboro Park, the downtown loop, and the Mountains-to-Sea Trail bring outdoor time into the center of town; a future Pondberry Bay Preserve is planned with a five-mile walking route.
