Rosedale, LA

Rosedale sits in northern Iberville Parish at the crossing of Louisiana Highways 76 and 77, with Bayou Grosse Tete running through the center and the village of Grosse Tete just to the south. The bayou is part of the town’s practical geography: the roads follow its bends, and the surrounding landscape is a mix of open fields and cropland. Rosedale is within the Baton Rouge metropolitan area, yet its street map still reads through water, farm parcels, and the two highways meeting at the village center.

Local history follows that same corridor. English-speaking settlers named the community for the Cherokee roses they found in the area; a post office opened in 1857, and a railroad depot followed in 1859. The depot building now houses the Council on Aging, a neat example of old transportation infrastructure folded into current community use. The village maintains a fire station, parks with ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, a library, senior center, and a lighted walking trail. School routines run through Iberville Parish schools, with North Iberville Elementary and Plaquemine High serving local students.
