Roseland, OH

Roseland is a Richland County census-designated place on the north side of Mansfield, where Ohio Route 39/Springmill Road runs toward the city and Shelby. The 2020 census counted 1,495 residents. The name covers a cluster of older neighborhoods above Route 30, with Mansfield bordering the CDP on three sides. For generations, locals also called the area Little Kentucky, a name tied to the Appalachian families who moved north for industrial work.

Roseland’s story is a working north-side district inside Mansfield’s industrial orbit, organized through neighborhood streets and the city around it. County historians identify older sections by names such as Crystal Springs, Bowman Heights, and Homesite Gardens, each with its own small-community history. Today the area’s jobs, schools, shopping, medical care, and municipal services connect to Mansfield, while Route 39 carries traffic north and south past the residential streets. Roseland is a north-Mansfield community whose name survives in maps and memories as the surrounding urban edge continues to fill in.
