Rosepine, LA

Rosepine sits sixteen miles southwest of Leesville in Vernon Parish, a town whose early shape came from the Kansas City, Shreveport and Gulf Railway. The line reached Rosepine in 1897 on its way toward Port Arthur, opening a timber corridor that soon supported several sawmills. By 1901, Brice Brothers and Craft, Diamond Lumber, Lewis and Williams, and Rosepine Lumber were all operating in the area. The lumber boom left the town with a strong historical thread, and the Rosepine Historical Society is still working to preserve that story through its local history collection and Evans Historical Park project. Fort Johnson and Leesville supply the larger regional map, while Rosepine keeps its own town government and parish-road address. Rosepine is a Vernon Parish railroad town whose name still carries the sound of pine, timber, and the old mill corridor.
