Rosholt, WI

Rosholt is a village in Portage County, Wisconsin, surrounded by the Town of Alban. The 2020 census counted 478 residents. The village sits in central Wisconsin farm country, with county roads leading through fields and woodlots toward Stevens Point and the larger Portage County map. Its fairgrounds occupy a large part of local community life, giving Rosholt a calendar that reaches well beyond the village limits.

The grounds hosted their first Farmers-Merchants Picnic on Labor Day weekend in 1920. The event became the Rosholt Community Fair in 1923 and the Portage County Fair in 1929. Today the fair park also hosts Fourth of July fireworks, Good Times in the Pines, the Thresheree, and Bluegrass in the Pines. Gottlieb Stanbly was the first recorded owner of the land, receiving four 40-acre parcels in 1858 as a veteran. The village’s name remains tied to the fairgrounds and their yearly crowds. Rosholt is a small village with a big gathering place, where agriculture, music, fireworks, and county traditions meet each year.
