Roslyn, WA

Tucked into the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains, Roslyn is a charming historic town about eighty miles east of Seattle. Home to around 1,100 residents, it started as a bustling coal-mining hub in the late 1800s. Today, much of that original character remains intact. Walking down Pennsylvania Avenue feels like stepping back in time, with preserved wooden storefronts, vintage brick buildings, and deep local roots that earned the entire town a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

For newcomers, everyday living centers on a close-knit community and quick access to the outdoors. Families share schools with neighboring Cle Elum, while local landmarks like the Roslyn Cafe and The Brick Tavern give neighbors easy places to gather. Surrounding pine forests and mountain trails offer year-round hiking, biking, and snow sports right outside town. You might also recognize the streets from the 1990s TV series Northern Exposure, which adds a bit of quirky charm to a quiet mountain lifestyle.
