Rosman, NC

Rosman sits where the French Broad River valley meets U.S. Route 64 in Transylvania County, with U.S. 178 ending less than a mile northwest of town. European-American settlement was first called Jeptha, then Toxaway, but the name changed to Eastatoe in 1903 to avoid confusion with nearby Lake Toxaway. Rosman’s mountain geography still does most of the orienting: the river runs through the valley, U.S. 64 carries east-west traffic, and the Pisgah country rises to the north.

Present-day town life gathers around Town Hall on Main Street, the Rosman Riverfront Park planning area, and the schools that carry the community name from elementary through high school. Rosman’s athletic teams are the Tigers, and the town’s location puts outdoor country, summer camps, and the upper French Broad close to daily routines. Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute lies about six miles north near Balsam Grove, adding an unusual science destination to the regional map.
