About Roswell

Roswell is a southeastern New Mexico city with two very different public identities: a real regional center and a pop-culture capital of UFO tourism. The city is home to New Mexico Military Institute, founded in 1891, and an Eastern New Mexico University campus. During World War II, German prisoners of war were used for local infrastructure work, including along the North Spring River. Today Roswell's tourism is heavily shaped by aerospace and ufology museums, alien-themed businesses, and space-related imagery layered over a working high-plains city.
