About Round Top

Round Top is a town in northeastern Fayette County, set on a hill between Cummins Creek and Rocky Creek, tributaries of the Colorado River. The 2020 census counted 87 residents. Texas 237 runs through the center, leading about 22 miles northeast to Brenham and 16 miles southwest to La Grange. With such a small population, the town's name carries an outsized cultural reach across the central Texas region, drawing people for historic buildings, antiques, and music.

Moore's Fort, often described as Fayette County's oldest building, was moved to Round Top from nearby La Grange. The James Dick Foundation's Round Top Festival Institute began in 1971 and grew from a small piano program on the town square into a major music campus with Festival Hill and a concert hall. Round Top-Carmine Independent School District serves local students. Round Top is a small Texas town with a rural setting and a calendar shaped by history, performing arts, and the river country around it.
