Roxana, IL

Roxana is a Madison County village in the River Bend portion of the St. Louis Metro East, and its map is dominated by the Wood River Refinery. The plant was built in 1917 and is now operated by Phillips 66; it covers about 2,200 acres and produces transportation fuels, asphalt, petroleum coke, solvents, sulfur, and other products shipped by pipeline, rail, barge, and truck. The refinery's fence line and the village streets grew together, so industry is part of Roxana's physical address, with the plant set among the community's homes and roads.
