Rumsey, CA

Rumsey is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Yolo County, California. The 2020 census counted 91 residents. Rumsey is located 18 miles northwest of Esparto, in the Capay Valley, in the northwestern part of the county. Rumsey lies at an elevation of 420 feet. The short version is that Rumsey carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Rumsey: its past remains attached to the places people use now. A post office was erected in 1878 near the Rumsey community, but it was named "Rock". In 1888 it was moved two miles north to the terminus of the Vaca Valley and Clear Lake Railroad, and the name was changed to "Rumsey".
