About Rushville

Rushville is Schuyler County’s seat, with roots going back to Calvin Hobart and his family’s arrival in 1823. The county followed two years later, originally covering pieces of several counties that now surround it. That gives the town its main local shape: county courthouse, schools, and a long-standing role as the place where Schuyler County handles its business. Rushville-Industry schools and Schuyler-Industry Community Unit District 5 tie the city to nearby Industry as well. The local shorthand is western Illinois county-seat history, an early settler named Hobart, and a town whose civic role predates most of the surrounding map.
