Russellville, OH

Russellville is a village in Jefferson Township in Brown County, Ohio, laid out by Russell Shaw in 1817 and named for him. It sits along the old Ripley and Hillsboro turnpike, between Ripley and Georgetown, in the rolling country east of Cincinnati. The village's shape still makes sense as a crossroads place: Main Street and State Route 125 meet the north-south route through town, while the surrounding township opens into farm country. Shaw's name remains more than a label; a historical marker near his grave in Shaw Cemetery keeps the founder tied to the local ground.

Older county accounts described Russellville as a busy small center with churches, shops, hotels, and a flour mill, a fuller commercial footprint than its present size might suggest. Schooling has also been part of the village map: Russellville Elementary is identified as the only school in the village, and older Russellville school buildings on East Main Street have been reused as community space. Brown County lists Russellville among its villages, with the village office on East Main Street. Its story is a compact one, built from a named founder, a turnpike setting, and institutions that gave a small crossroads a regional role.
