Russian Mission, AK

Russian Mission is a city in the Kusilvak Census Area, Alaska, situated on the banks of the Yukon River. Tracing its history to a fur trading post established by the Russian-American Company in 1837, the community has a population of approximately six hundred residents. Local students attend the Russian Mission School within the Lower Yukon School District. Accessible primarily by air or water, Russian Mission maintains a traditional Yup'ik culture and subsistence economy.
