About Sachse

One of Sachse's defining stories is a railroad bargain followed by a spelling error. Founder William Sachse, a Prussian immigrant who settled in Texas in 1845, built an early cotton mill and gin in Collin County. In 1886 he granted the railroad a 100-foot right of way across his land; the company built a depot and named the town for him, but its signs initially read "Saxie," a version that appeared in legal records until the mistake was corrected. Cotton remained central until onions became a major crop in the late 1920s. Sachse incorporated in 1956. Much faster growth came later: the population rose from 27,103 in the 2020 census to an estimated 32,834 in 2025, a 21.1 percent increase. Recent public investments reflect that expansion.

The City Council adopted a new comprehensive plan in May 2025 after gathering input from residents and community partners. The first open phase of J.K. Sachse Park includes a splash pad, pickleball courts, sand volleyball, a pavilion, and restrooms. Michael J. Felix Community Center supplies an indoor walking track, basketball and pickleball courts, fitness programming, game-room activities, and classes. Sachse Public Library's 2026 calendar listed weekly baby, toddler, and preschool story times, children's craft sessions, crochet meetings, family game nights, and summer reading. City events use several of these places rather than one central square: three 2026 Summer Nights concerts were scheduled at J.K. Sachse Park, the July Red, White, and Blue Blast used Heritage Park, and teen nights met at the community center.
