Sachse’s story began with a classic Texas rail deal and an accidental spelling error. In 1886, William Sachse, a Prussian immigrant who had built an early cotton gin in Collin County, gave the railroad a 100-foot right-of-way across his farmland. The rail company built a depot in his honor, but mistakenly painted the signs as “Saxie,” a quirky typo that even made its way into early county records. Over the decades, cotton fields gave way to onion farming, and the quiet agricultural outpost eventually incorporated in the 1950s.
