Saginaw, PA

Saginaw is a small census-designated place at the mouth of the Gut on the Susquehanna River in East Manchester Township, York County. The place has worn several names: New Holland was laid out in 1804, became Day’s Landing in 1825, and is now known as Saginaw. Its river position made it a lumber center, with Eib’s Landing and nearby river landings sending timber toward Maryland and the towns of York County. That history puts Saginaw inside the older working landscape of the Susquehanna, where low islands, wooded banks, and river crossings shaped settlement.

Today Saginaw is a named community within East Manchester Township, with Mount Wolf and Goldsboro serving as larger nearby centers. The former landing history sits beside roads, township services, and the open river corridor. The Susquehanna remains the physical reference even after the lumber trade faded: its bends and bottomlands still organize the map. Saginaw is easy to overlook on a regional map, yet its name preserves a river settlement whose story began with a village plan, a timber trade, and a landing at the mouth of a creek.
