Salineville, OH

Salineville is a village in Columbiana County, Ohio, about 20 miles northwest of Steubenville and 35 miles southwest of Youngstown. The 2020 census counted 1,206 residents. Yellow Creek runs through the area, and Yellow Creek State Forest borders the village, bringing woods and creek country close to its streets. Southern Local School District serves students through a K–12 complex completed in 2004. Yellow Creek State Forest gives the village a wooded edge and a place for local outdoor trips in every season for residents.

Salineville was laid out in 1839 and incorporated as a village in 1848. Its name comes from the salt deposits found along Yellow Creek, a reminder that the creek shaped both the landscape and the settlement’s early economy. Today the village operates under a mayor-council government, with local offices and council meetings serving the community. Salineville is a small Columbiana County place with a salt-water name, a forest edge, and a school district that gathers the surrounding countryside.
