Salisbury Mills, NY

Salisbury Mills is an Orange County hamlet and census-designated place built along Moodna Creek in the towns of Blooming Grove and Cornwall. Beaver Dam Lake borders the north, and the creek runs east toward the Hudson between New Windsor and Cornwall-on-Hudson. Mills and transportation shaped the settlement, while the railroad left the huge Moodna Viaduct at its eastern edge. The trestle is the longest actively used rail trestle in the eastern United States, carrying trains above the creek valley.

New York State Route 94 forms the northern edge, leading toward New Windsor and Chester, while Newburgh and Middletown supply larger regional services. Most of Salisbury Mills lies in Cornwall Central School District, with a portion in Washingtonville Central. Beaver Dam Lake, Moodna Creek, the active rail line, and the viaduct do more to organize the landscape than a conventional village center. Salisbury Mills is a place shaped by water, rail, and school-district boundaries, with the Hudson Valley opening east from its creek valley.
