Salisbury, MO

Salisbury is a Chariton County city at the junction of U.S. 24 and Missouri 129. The 2020 census counted 1,563 residents. Judge Lucius Salisbury founded the town in 1867 after buying the site for $400 in gold, and the older square still gives the place its center: the Salisbury Square Historic District preserves the city's historic core while the surrounding routes connect it to Keytesville and Clifton Hill. The nearby streets remain tied to that public core.

Present-day Salisbury spreads its community life through a few well-defined public places. City Park has a playground, horse arena, tennis courts, ball field, and picnic space. Philpotts Park just south of town adds a nine-hole public golf course, walking trails, and a small lake, while Sterling Price Community Lake offers an 84.3-acre public recreation spot on the Middle Fork of the Little Chariton River. Salisbury R-IV carries the school side of daily life with K–12 education. The pattern is straightforward: historic square, school, parks, and water all sit within the same small-town orbit.
