Salton City is a census-designated place on the western shores of the Salton Sea in Imperial County, California. Planned in 1958 by developer Penn Phillips as a major resort destination that ultimately fell short of expectations, the community of approximately 5,988 is served by the Coachella Valley Unified School District for public primary and secondary education.
