San Bernardino, CA

San Bernardino sits right at the busy crossroads of the Inland Empire, framed by the San Bernardino Mountains and the distinctive natural Arrowhead landmark etched on the hillside. Much of the city's economy thrives around logistics, aviation, and commerce, especially around the San Bernardino International Airport and the former Norton Air Force Base. Major regional employers like Stater Bros. Markets and Amazon have large footprints here, taking full advantage of direct links to Interstates 10, 210, and 215. It gives the southeastern side of town a fast-paced, commercial energy with quick access to the rest of Southern California.

The city has deep roots as a historic rail town surrounded by sprawling citrus groves. You can still see that heritage today at the National Orange Show Events Center on Mill Street. What began over a century ago as a modest citrus exhibition in canvas tents has grown into a bustling hub for concerts, food festivals, trade shows, and community gatherings. It remains one of the area's favorite weekend destinations, keeping the city's agricultural past alive in the middle of a modern urban landscape.

Up against the northern foothills, California State University, San Bernardino brings a lively campus vibe to the northern side of town. The university serves more than 20,000 students and offers plenty of activities for local residents, from college athletics and theater productions to scenic walking spots near the hills. It is also home to the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, a local cultural gem known across the region for its impressive collections of world art and ancient ceramics.

Getting around the region is convenient thanks to the San Bernardino Transit Center downtown. From here, commuters can jump on Metrolink trains into Los Angeles, take the Arrow passenger line over to Redlands, or use the sbX bus rapid transit line to travel between Cal State and nearby Loma Linda. The area also takes pride in its classic car culture, rooted in its historic stop along Route 66. Car enthusiasts regularly gather downtown and along Mount Vernon Avenue for cruising nights and festivals celebrating the city's enduring connection to the open road.
