About San Carlos

San Carlos is an Hidalgo County census-designated place northeast of McAllen, five miles east of Edinburg along State Highway 107. It became a station on the Texas and New Orleans Railroad in 1927, and for decades the settlement was a small rail stop with two stores and few businesses. A colonia developed outside San Carlos in the 1960s, growing into a larger residential community, while Edinburg schools serve the area today. San Carlos is a South Texas place whose map runs from railroad siding to highway corridor.
