San Marino is known for its peaceful, manicured neighborhoods and timeless architecture. The city grew out of citrus groves and the historic San Marino Ranch in the early twentieth century, planned from the very beginning with a focus on single-family homes. Early city leaders established strict building rules that kept out commercial sprawl and large apartment complexes. Huntington Drive and a brief stretch of Mission Street hold the town's cafes, neighborhood dry cleaners, upscale boutiques, and casual lunch spots. For outdoor recreation, residents head to Lacy Park, a scenic green space of more than twenty-five acres near the middle of town. It is where you will find neighbors jogging around the walking loops, playing a match on the tennis courts, watching their kids on the playground, or relaxing near the rose garden.
