About San Pablo
San Pablo is a Doña Ana County census-designated place nearly three miles southeast of Mesilla and south of Las Cruces along New Mexico State Road 28. It is one of the small Mesilla Valley communities with Las Cruces Public Schools serving the CDP and Mesilla less than three miles away. The valley's agricultural history is close at hand: Rio Grande irrigation, pecan orchards, chile fields, and roads linking farm parcels to Mesilla and Las Cruces shape the setting.
A lot of San Pablo's story is practical infrastructure. The San Pablo Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association serves the rural area, and a 2017 federal grant and loan supported upgrades to its wastewater system for 174 users. San Pablo is a compact rural settlement with a New Mexico state road, a shared water system, and a daily orbit around Las Cruces and Mesilla. The place's identity comes from that in-between position: near the valley's historic core, near the city, and still laid out in the smaller-scale pattern of southern New Mexico's agricultural communities.
