Sand Point, OK

Sand Point is an unincorporated census-designated place on Lake Texoma in Bryan County, Oklahoma, where the 2020 census counted 251 residents. The community sits on the lake's east shore, along the Washita River arm, about twelve miles west of Durant. Lake Texoma is an impoundment on the Red River, so Sand Point's setting is defined by a tributary arm, a broad reservoir, and the county seat's roads to the east.

The lake grew from the Denison Dam project during World War II, changing a river valley with a long human history into one of the region's major water landscapes. The dam's rolled-earth construction became a model for later projects, and the lake brought boating, fishing, and shoreline recreation to both Oklahoma and Texas. Sand Point remains an unincorporated community, but its name marks a clear spot on the Washita side of the reservoir. Its place in the region comes from the meeting of lake water, river geography, and the route toward Durant.
