Sandy is a Clearfield County census-designated place in Sandy Township, along the southern edge of DuBois. The township was formed in 1878 from parts of Brady, Huston, and Union townships, and its name comes from Sandy Lick Creek. Early local industry centered on gas, coal, and coke, with railroads and highways following that work into the twentieth century. For the place on the map today, DuBois is the main reference point and Sandy Township is the governing frame. Sandy is a Pennsylvania community whose name comes from a creek and whose past follows the fuels beneath the ground.
