About Sandy Valley

Sandy Valley is a Mojave Desert census-designated place in Clark County, about 35 miles from southern Las Vegas and 20 miles from the Jean exit on I-15. The valley is framed by the southern Spring Mountains, Mount Potosi, and the Kingston Range, and the 2020 census counted 1,663 residents. Its most unusual built feature is Sky Ranch Estates, a residential aviation community organized around Sky Ranch Airport, a privately owned airport open for public use. That combination of desert distance and a runway gives Sandy Valley a built landscape rarely found in a rural desert community.

Most local activity runs through the 16-acre Sandy Valley Community Center on West Quartz Avenue. It has a sports field, basketball court, picnic tables, and playground, while the county’s Citizens Advisory Council meets there each month. The center hosts movie nights, holiday gatherings, and other seasonal events, and the Sandy Valley Senior Center adds pancake breakfasts, quilting, card games, and classes. Sandy Valley School serves students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, so the valley’s civic, school, and social routines are concentrated around a few widely spaced facilities rather than a conventional downtown.
