Sanibel, FL

Sanibel is a barrier-island city off the southwest Florida coast, known for shell beaches, wildlife habitat, and a slower island rhythm. Sanibel and Captiva formed as one island thousands of years ago, and today water, beaches, mangroves, and conservation land define much of the place. The island is especially known for birds, including roseate spoonbills, and for shelling along beaches shaped by Gulf currents. Sanibel feels intentionally different from mainland Florida: quieter, nature-focused, and deeply tied to coastal preservation.
