Santa Clarita is really four distinct communities tied together under one name: Valencia, Newhall, Saugus, and Canyon Country. Though they officially merged into one city in 1987, each area keeps its own distinct feel and neighborhood charm. Valencia is famous for its master-planned subdivisions and paved paseo trails, which let you walk or bike around town safely away from busy traffic. The Santa Clara River winds straight through the valley, framed by rolling chaparral hills that give the area a cozy, tucked-away feel from greater Los Angeles. Six Flags Magic Mountain sits right on the edge of town, greeting drivers with towering roller coasters. Long before suburban neighborhoods arrived, the Tataviam people established villages throughout the valley, and the Fernandeño Tataviam Band continues to celebrate and preserve their tribal culture here today.

Newhall grew up around the historic Southern Pacific railroad line, leaving behind a classic street grid and a heritage rooted in movie ranches and early cinema. Valencia was designed in the mid-twentieth century with quiet cul-de-sacs, manicured parks, and easy access to neighborhood schools. You will also find a robust local job market that saves many residents from having to commute over the hill into Los Angeles. Film and television crews regularly shoot across local soundstages, supported by thriving aerospace, defense, and medical tech employers. For culture and education, CalArts brings world-class visual and performing arts to Valencia, while College of the Canyons provides great community classes, athletic events, and career training across two campuses.

For dining and entertainment, Old Town Newhall serves as the valley's liveliest gathering spot. Main Street features independent restaurants, wine tasting rooms, craft breweries, and The MAIN, a popular venue hosting live theater, stand-up comedy, and music. On the third Thursday of every month from spring through fall, the city hosts the SENSES block party, filling the streets with food trucks, live bands, and themed activities. You can pick up fresh produce at year-round farmers markets in Newhall and Canyon Country. When you need to head into downtown Los Angeles or the San Fernando Valley, four Metrolink train stations make the trip easy, including the modern transit hub at Vista Canyon. Miles of connecting trails tie the whole valley together, offering plenty of room to run, bike, and enjoy the sunny Southern California weather.
