Sarah Ann, WV

Sarah Ann is a quiet, close-knit community located along Island Creek in southwestern Logan County. With around two hundred residents, daily life here is relaxed and centered around the steep, wooded hills that frame the valley. West Virginia Route 44 runs straight through town, giving locals a simple twelve-mile drive north into the city of Logan for groceries, schools, and medical care, or a quick trip south toward U.S. Route 52.

The town takes its name from Sarah O'Toole and Ann Shanklin, the wives of two early coal company leaders. Deep regional history is everywhere here, including the nearby Hatfield Cemetery, the final resting place of feud patriarch Devil Anse Hatfield. Today, Sarah Ann offers a private, mountain-hollow setting with a local post office, friendly neighbors, and plenty of quiet space away from busier commercial hubs.
