Sardis, GA

Originally known by the colorful name Frog Wallow, Sardis grew into a bustling railroad and lumber hub in southeast Burke County during the early 1900s. The town officially took the name Sardis from a local Baptist church when it incorporated in 1912. While the trains have long stopped running and the tracks are gone, the community has held onto its heritage. Historic landmarks like the old passenger depot and a massive concrete coal tower still stand downtown, giving the area a distinctive sense of history.

Today, Sardis is a quiet, close-knit rural community located about 17 miles southeast of Waynesboro and roughly 45 minutes south of Augusta.
