Sartell, MN

Sartell is shaped by the Mississippi River, which cuts right through town and splits the community between Stearns and Benton counties. Settled in the mid-nineteenth century as a logging hub and named after sawmill owner Joseph B. Sartell, the town grew up around a massive riverfront paper mill that powered the local economy for generations. While the mill's sudden closure in 2012 left a void along the riverfront, the city has spent recent years reclaiming and revitalizing the property.
