Saucier, MS

Saucier is a census-designated place in Harrison County, Mississippi, with 1,077 residents in the 2020 census and a place in the Gulfport–Biloxi metropolitan area. The community sits in central Harrison County along the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad, with Gulf Coast cities south and pine-country roads extending north. Its post office opened in 1893, and the hamlet incorporated in 1901.

Saucier began as a railroad and timber community. Around 1900, sawmills, turpentine operations, general stores, a drugstore, and a confectionery filled out the small commercial center. The older commercial story still shows up in the railroad alignment and scattered timber-era buildings. The old Gulf & Ship Island line connected the place to the coast and inland markets, while the railroad corridor still runs through the community. Saucier Elementary, West Wortham Elementary/Middle, and the Saucier Children’s Library keep education and books on the local map. Saucier is a Mississippi community where pine woods, rail history, timber work, schools, and the Gulf Coast all connect.
