Saylorsburg, PA

Saylorsburg is a Monroe County census-designated place in the Pocono Mountains, split between Ross and Hamilton townships. The community sits off Pennsylvania Route 33, about five miles northwest of Wind Gap, with the Wilkes-Barre Turnpike and older local roads shaping the village. That township split is part of the local picture: the Hamilton side is in Stroudsburg Area School District, while the Ross side is in Pleasant Valley School District.

Ross Township’s history adds a few good details. Saylor’s Lake became a summer resort and a winter ice-cutting site, and a major brick factory operated in Saylorsburg in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Ross Township municipal building and historical society museum are both on Anchorage Road, giving the place a civic and historical address of its own.
