About Scarbro

Scarbro is a census-designated place and coal town in Fayette County, West Virginia, United States. The 2020 census counted 461 residents. The community was named for the fact a large share of the first settlers were named Scarbrough, which was said to recall the English town-name of Scarborough in Yorkshire. Scarbro was incorporated in 1901. Scarbro makes sense once you see how its past, landscape, and current gathering spots overlap. The useful thing to know about Scarbro is that its older landmarks and current settings belong to one connected place.
