Schwenksville, PA

Schwenksville is a borough in Montgomery County along the Perkiomen Creek. The 2020 Census counted 1,431 residents. The borough grew from land along the creek, took its name from George Schwenk, and incorporated in 1903. Its earlier working history includes Pennsylvania’s first copper mine near town before 1720, mills along the water, and the arrival of the Reading Railroad. Those layers keep the creek and rail corridor at the center of the local map.

Today the Perkiomen Trail follows much of the former Perkiomen Line rail bed through Schwenksville, linking the borough to a 20-mile multi-use route. Meadow Park sits beside the creek with a pavilion and places to fish, and Pennypacker Mills lies across the water in a landscape tied to the Revolutionary War camps of George Washington’s army. The Perkiomen Valley school system and the Schwenksville branch of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library fill in the everyday civic side. Schwenksville is a small creek borough where industrial traces, a regional trail, and Revolutionary-era history meet within a few miles.
