Scotts Hill, TN

Scotts Hill straddles the line between Decatur and Henderson counties in western Tennessee, with Tennessee Route 100 running north of the town center. Charles Austin settled the area in 1825, and Micajah Scott opened the store that gave the town its name. A stagecoach route brought passengers and mail through the community, and Scotts Hill College opened in 1896 before closing around 1917. That same year brought a tornado and a fire that destroyed the town's business district, leaving rebuilding as part of the local memory.

Scotts Hill City Park now carries much of the town's gathering life. The eighteen-acre park has baseball fields, pavilions, a stage, an arena, playgrounds, courts, a farmers market, and a walking trail. Appreciation Days began in 1982 and still returns each fall, while Music on the Hill fills the senior center on selected Fridays. Scotts Hill Elementary and Scotts Hill High School serve local students, and the town's historical collection at City Hall holds photographs and objects from earlier generations. The town's map joins a county line, an old college, a rebuilt business district, and a park that stays busy with local tradition.
