About Scranton

Scranton is a Florence County town on US 52 between Coward and Lake City, about twenty miles south of Florence. The highway runs through a rural Pee Dee landscape of farms and country roads, with Lake City three miles to the south and the county seat to the north. The town's municipal complex at 1818 US 52 brings together water service, the town clerk, grounds staff, and police offices. That roadside address gives Scranton a clear civic center alongside its through route.

Scranton's recreation map fills in the rest. City Hall Park sits behind the municipal complex, with two renovated tennis courts nearby. Weatherford Park on Ball Park Road hosts youth baseball, softball, soccer, and church-league softball, while a resurfaced walking track lies off State Road S-21-318. On the surrounding waterways, Riverrats Canoe and Kayak Rentals launches trips onto Lynches River as part of the SC Revolutionary Rivers National Water Trail. McKenzie Farms and Nursery on Olanta Highway has grown vegetables and other crops since the mid-1960s. Parks, paddling, and farm roads give this highway town its everyday texture.
