SeaTac, WA

Two dugout canoes discovered at the bottom of Angle Lake in 1990 were carbon-dated to about 1678. SeaTac’s defining modern infrastructure arrived in 1942, when the Port of Seattle accepted a federal grant to build a replacement civilian airport after the military took control of Boeing Field. Seattle–Tacoma International Airport remains within the city limits and supplied the portmanteau name “SeaTac.” Residents approved incorporation in 1989, and the city incorporated in February 1990. SeaTac’s 2020 population totaled 31,454. The city includes the older communities of Angle Lake, Bow Lake, McMicken Heights, and Riverton Heights.
